Parent & Spectator Guidelines for Sportsmanship
At Reading Jr/Sr High School, we believe athletics are an extension of the classroom, fostering life lessons such as discipline, teamwork, respect, and responsibility. Reading Jr/Sr High School is committed to promoting a positive environment for student-athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators. In alignment with the principles established by the NFHS and OHSAA, the following guidelines are in place to uphold the values of respect, integrity, responsibility, and encouragement.

- Recognize and applaud effort and sportsmanship on both sides.
Respect Officials and Coaches
- Accept the decisions of officials as fair and part of the game.
- Refrain from criticizing referees, coaches, or players during or after the game.

Let Coaches Coach
- Avoid instructing players from the stands.
- Support the decisions of the coaching staff, even when you disagree.
- Discuss concerns with coaches at appropriate times (not during games or immediately afterward). See Parent Communication Guidelines.
Honor the Game

- Show that win or lose, you value effort, teamwork, and fair play.
- Celebrate the educational and character-building aspects of high school athletics.
- Respect all athletic and school facilities - at both home and away events - and adhere to regulations.

Commitment to Sportsmanship
Reading Jr/Sr High School supports the OHSAA "Respect the Game(Opens in a new window)" initiative. We ask all parents and fans to commit to these values, remembering that junior high and high school sports are about education-based athletics and are an extension of the classroom.
Let's work together to ensure a safe, respectful, and spirited environment for all participants.
Participation in athletics is a privilege that extends to spectators. Your presence is appreciated, and your sportsmanship is essential. Thank you for supporting Reading Jr/Sr High School student-athletes in a way that reflects the values of our school and community.
