READING JR/SR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT
The RCCSD's Athletic Department will encourage high levels of participation that will enable Reading to be the standard of excellence through supporting academic success, promoting self-discipline and personal development, and fostering development of life skills of teamwork, sportsmanship, ethic, and integrity.

READING JR/SR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC PHILOSOPHY
Interscholastic athletics are an extension of the classroom promoting character, hard work, and discipline while helping to develop a person's body and mind. Athletics will provide a foundation for growth, goal setting, competitiveness, cooperation, teamwork, and adjustments to adversity and respect.

The emphasis in each sport will be to develop a successful varsity sports program. Each sport will be viewed as one program presided over by the Varsity Head Coach. The Varsity Head Coach will be involved with the program at all levels and be responsible for the performance of the entire program. In all sports, student-athletes will be taught one system from the seventh grade through the varsity level. The Varsity Head Coach will determine the offensive, defensive, and fundamental skills and training methods to be taught to the entire program. In addition, the Varsity Head Coach will be responsible for recommending quality coaches at all levels to the Athletic Director and building principal.

The first step toward a successful varsity program begins with middle school athletics. Middle school athletics will not be a continuation of the youth sports’ philosophy of “everyone plays”. Beginning in seventh grade, student-athletes will be gradually immersed in the world of competitive athletics and with each successive level of play will be introduced to increased and better competition.
